Magnetic Navigation
Reinvented
Magnetic guidance has long been the cornerstone of factory automation, reliably steering robotic vehicles along predefined paths marked by magnetized tape on the floor. Recognized for its simplicity and cost-effectiveness, this method is the preferred solution for fixed-path Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) applications. Naviq has taken this tried-and-true technology to the next level: boosting its performance and reliability for even more precise and dependable navigation.
Precision Angle Measurement
Naviq's Patented Breakthrough
Naviq's magnetic guide sensor features a unique and patented capability to measure the track's angle of incidence with 1-degree precision. It will also reports the track's position with 1mm accuracy. This exclusive dual functionality ensures unparalleled precision in both orientation and positioning, significantly enhancing the navigation capabilities of mobile robotic systems.
Predictive Steering
See the Curve, Stay on Track
Unlike standard magnetic line following sensors that simply detect a path's position on one dimension, Naviq's unique angle detection lets the robots mathematically evaluate the track's curvature. The robot can now distinguish between going off track, and therefore the need to apply only small trajectory corrections and entering a curve and therefore proactively apply sustained steering. The result is much improved tracking and higher speed.

Millimeter-Precise Docking
Another Naviq exclusive is the detection along the X and Y axis of point-source disk magnets with millimeter accuracy. By installing one or two such magnet at a precisely known locations, it is possible to evaluate the robot's position and orientation with very high accuracy. This feature makes the sensor a valuable accessory for precise last-millimeter positioning to charging and docking stations on robots using laser or vision navigation.

Location Markers
For a robot to operate autonomously and safely, knowing its location along the track is key. Markers made of magnetic tape with reversed polarity are strategically positioned to identify areas requiring speed adjustments, signal upcoming forks and merges, and indicate proximity to stop areas such as charging or docking stations. The sensor's ability to detect left, right, and coded combinations of markers provides a highly reliable and cost-effective localization solution. A unique merges and forks management algorithm makes changes of directon at forks smooth as silk.
Two Wires to
Connect to Anything
The Naviq magnetic track sensor is engineered for simple and efficient integration with all navigation computers commonly used in mobile robotics. It requires only 4 wires – two for power and two for communication – with an internal selector that can be configured to supports multiple communication protocols, including CANopen, RS232, and RS485, enabling seamless connection with Programmable Logic Controllers, Industrial Computers, and Linux Single Board Computers.
No-Install Plug and Run
Web Utility
Setting up and monitoring the MTS has never been easier. Just plug it into your PC or smartphone's USB port; it will power on and automatically open the Naviq web-based utility. No installation needed! Here, you can configure its operation mode, chart magnetic field strength in real time, track position and angle, and detect markers. You can also store and examine logs, and update to the latest firmware with ease.
Self-Checking,
Always Safe
Another Naviq patented innovation involves the use of integrated electromagnets to periodically self-test the functioning of each internal sensor IC. Coupled with a redundant set of sensors, this makes it the world's only magnetic sensor capable of self-detecting and reporting faulty measurements. A sophisticated software algorithm then adjusts to provide the most accurate tracking information with the remaining functional devices, ensuring the robot can safely return to a service area.
Suitable for All Robotic
Drive Trains
The MTS sensor is adept at guiding all common of robotic traction and steering designs. From the straightforward left/right motor and caster setup, which provides basic maneuverability perfect for stable, linear movements, to the more advanced steerable traction wheel system that boosts directional control and precision. It even accommodates the highly versatile omnidirectional Mecanum wheels, allowing robots to move in any direction—forward, backward, sideways, and diagonally. Naviq supports each configuration with tailored algorithms and examples, facilitating easy and rapid implementation.
